Most of us has had a boss at some time in our lives…is yours anything like this one?
This collection of 13 poems by Niall M Oliver offers a humorous and relatable exploration into the dynamics of the relationship between manager and subordinate.
We shouldn’t forget that poetry also has a duty to make us laugh and My Boss will make you do just that.
“Most poets avoid writing about the workplace, particularly writing about their boss. Oliver is not one of them. This collection places him well beyond most poets!”
- Owen Gallagher
“The ‘ boss’ addressed in the poems of Niall M Oliver’s darkly funny, and fiercely original pamphlet is a slithering, skin shedding, sneaky creature who ‘comes again/slinking towards my desk/like a polyester snake’. We have all known him, or her, and the beauty of these perfectly crafted poems is their relatability and equally the way they surprise and delight with their inventive metaphors, vibrant similes and deliciously subversive turns of phrase. Put down that photocopying and pick up the poems – you are in for a treat.”
- Anna Saunders.

Caroline –
If you’ve ever had a nightmare boss, then this wee pamphlet is for you. The poems take you on a journey where there is some understanding in common humanity but more often than not, there’s a struggle to understand how they tick. I found myself smiling at the images evoked and even laughed heartily at a few.!

A brilliant collection. The blurb and the concept was really appealing to me – we’ve all had bosses, we all know some of the dynamics – and this book captures them and more. Astute, funny, insightful, smart. I took the plunge and bought it and I am so glad I did.
