I’m delighted and chuffed to say that our latest Stickleback, ‘Who Lives In A House Like This?’ is ready for you to download and enjoy.
This one is a little different, as for the first time we are having a prize for the ‘Best’ or most popular anyway, poem.
The winner will receive the first of our special ‘Presentation Cult Notebooks’ which you can’t, of course, buy in the shops and there we are.
So if you wouldn’t mind, downloading, reading and then voting below, it would be appreciated.

As we had a Tie between Ceinwen and Sarah, and we need a single winner, please choose which of them you think should win by voting here before the end of the 14th of January:

lovely collection! common threads, but diverse responses too
What different responses to the theme. Well done to all!
Some great poetry here. I’ve placed my vote. Good luck to all.
Great selection of poems. I love these different ways in to lives within a house. :)
Not sure why my mini biog keeps coming up with comment? Can I move it to profile page only?
I shall investigate Kerry Darbishire Songwriter turned poet etc. :)
Ah, there it is :)
Hmm, I should have run a book on this…
Thanks Mark, it seems to have disappeared from the above messages!
Hard to choose a favourite. Wish I could vote for all of them!
That was enjoyable! Hard to choose just one (I hate that part), but my vote is cast. Good luck all!
Hard to choose a favourite but I’ve managed to vote. Good luck to everyone.
Lovely to read everyone’s take on this theme, so diverse! My choice was easy. Well done to everyone! 😊
Excellent poems, all of them. I read them all aloud and finally chose the one that I wanted to read aloud again. Lovely.
Great poems…difficult choices
Enjoyed reading them all which made choosing really difficult, but after three readings one stood out for me.
I read the poems several times. They were all very good. A hard choice to make but the one I chose had something magical about it.
Great collection of poems celebrating a range of diverse rhythms and imagery. I very much enjoyed reading.
Perhaps in future, to be really democratic, the actual vote tally should not be shown – it could be embarrassing ( and discouraging) if someone got no votes and that were visible) I think personally an announecement of the winner and in the case of a tie then another vote should suffice. Or I am I being overly sensitive.
@margaretroyall That is a really good point – I shall definitely do that in future. It is certainly meant to be fun and the last thing I want is to discourage people from entering.
From my perspective, I’ve already judged everything that was sent in and what appears in the Stickleback is basically the ‘Shortlist’ anyway, so the last thing I want to do is overshadow the fact that everybody who is in it has already ‘won’ if that doesn’t sound like everybody gets a medal in the school sports day :)
Great! Yes, thanks for response. I’m pleased you agree. And yes, it’s good to remember that it’s an accolade in itself to be picked for a Stickleback.
Another idea might be to have ‘joint’ winners!??
@Kerry Looking at the voting, it might have to be :)
In truth though, the prize budget is very tight – I plan and then spend, quite literally every penny that comes in on this (and a few I hope will arrive sometime soon ;o) – but there we are.
Maybe I need to learn to juggle better!
I’ve voted for the poem I think best fulfills the remit. It’s about who lives in the house, not about the house itself . For that reason alone, I vote for Ceinwen’ s poem. Both are brilliantly evocative and given other definition, would make an even more difficult choice.
John Priestley
Just to say wow (and I’ve voted).
