The May Challenge
Deadline For Entries: CLOSED
Voting Open: 29th May-4th June Winner Announced: 5th June 2019 VOTING IS NOW OPEN Late as ever, I am pleased to say that you can now download our ‘Hedgehog’s Seed Catalogue’: [download id=”5726″] Once you have had an opportunity to read the usual diverse mix of poetry (wild flowers?) if you would be so kind as to choose from the poets listed below, we can see who will get to enjoy Sue’s brilliant course. [democracy id=”7″]The May Challenge is something I hope will catch everybody’s imagination and it will see one lucky Cult member being invited to take part in Sue Burge’s Writing Cloud for six months. You can find out all about that HERE I asked Sue to come-up with a Challenge, and this is her idea: The Challenge: “I wanted to choose a challenge which would chime with the good weather coming and the fact that many people will be gardening or going outdoors in some way. So, the challenge is to create a new plant. Firstly, give it a name, this is the title of your poem – the poem should have a maximum of ten lines and to read a bit like a description on a gardening website/catalogue. David Austin’s rose catalogue might be a good guide – the roses are often named after family members or famous people who are memorialised in a suitable choice of rose. You don’t have to name your new plant after a person, you may decide to celebrate something inanimate instead. Decide what qualities/characteristics you want your plant to have, maybe healing, maybe aggressive, it may reflect the character of the person or idea/object you name it for. The Brexit Thistle anyone? The Prize: Based on our usual vote, One winner will be invited to join Sue’s Writing Cloud for a Six Month period. This is a great opportunity for any poet to get regular feedback on their work without via email or post. Additionally, I will select the best of the poems to be included in our own ‘Seed Catalogue’ Stickleback, to be published later this year.

Such a lovely imaginative challenge for May! I did enjoy reading all the April challenge poems too – there were some excellent ones. And I’m still in the throes of my Poetry Conversation – also to be submitted in May. Ah, poems galore!
Good luck to everyone entering!
Brilliant! 😀
An interesting spring twist …
i might have to consider this May Challenge. thanks Susan.
On first reading I was unsure about whether I could work within the strictures of this one, the very particular approach required. In other words it’s a challenge! So I had a go and now I have a draft to work on.
I’m having fun with this. Do I email my entries to Mark?
Desperately seeking … guidance on how to submit an entry to the May challenge. The deadline, if it’s midnight tonight, is very close! Someone else asked ‘Do i email my entries to Mark?’ but i can’t read the answer, if there was one. And can i submit two entries?
Hi Macmandiverse
I’ve only just seen this. Yes the submissions were to be sent to Mark and yes you can send it more than one entry.
If you didn’t manage to get yours sorted, I suggest you email Mark, with a screenshot of your post on here, and he may be able to make an exception and allow you a late entry.

I can’t wait to get started on this!
Such a brilliant challenge! I have really enjoyed the creative element although it is challenging to keep it all within 10 lines. A good discipline as it made me cut out anything unnecessary.
I agree Kate. Personally, although I had to try to distil overpowering feelings about the recent loss of my beautiful wife into such a short poem, I welcomed the discipline for the same reasons
That is what made it such a good, though difficult, challenge. Roll on the June Cult Challenge!
Congratulations Jenna!
Sorry…congratulations Jenny!
