Stickleback XXVII:
by
Marcus Smith

Marcus Smith recently contributed work to the Soho Poly Project and the Being Human Festival.
His most current book SEZ/Everything Speaks (Live Canon) is presented as a series of texts between lovers set on the streets of London. The basis for a performance piece by The Live Canon Ensemble, SEZ, as Keith Jafrate of The Word Hoard finds, “uses our ambivalent contemporary concepts of ‘mobility’ and ‘connection’ to quietly subvert the city, revealing within its apparent fixity a wealth of what might be called free associations, dense intersections of thought and thing in which, quite literally, everything speaks.”
His work has appeared widely and internationally, including with Acumen, Ambit, Envoi, The North, The Rialto, Popshot, Stand and The SHOp and in the States with Able Muse, The Classical Outlook, Confrontation and The Wallace Stevens Journal, has won Poetry on the Lake, Plough and Southern Poetry Review prizes and twice been a Cinnamon Press Book Award finalist. The chapbook New York a Go-Go appears with Recours au poème (Paris) and his reviews in many journals, among them PN Review. At various times university lecture, journalist and freelance writer and editor, Marcus began his writing career as a stringer with New Musical Express before graduating from Williams College.
