About Phil Vernon

Phil lives in Kent, where he returned with his wife Tebo and two children in 2004 after two decades in various parts of Africa. He works as an advisor on peacebuilding and international development. He’d written a few poems when younger, and took up poetry again in 2012, partly as a way to exploit the time spent on a long daily commute, and international work travel, but poetry has long-since spread to other parts of the day. He is a member of, and highly recommends, the Kent and Sussex Poetry Society. He mainly writes formal poetry, finding the interaction with pre- established patterns of rhythm and rhyme can lead in surprising directions, sometimes revealing unexpected, hidden thoughts and feelings. His poems have been published in numerous magazines, journals and websites, and been shortlisted in competitions. Some can be found on his website
