About Nigel Kent
Nigel Kent is a poet living in rural Worcestershire. He is an active member of the Open University Poetry Association and occasional editor of its workshop magazine. He has been shortlisted for several national competitions and his poetry has appeared in a range of publications such as A Restricted View Under the Hedge, The Road to Clifton Pier, Lost things, Poems for Keeps, What the Elephant said to the Peacock, What the Peacock Replied, Persona non Grata, and The Pocket Book of Anger, South Poetry Magazine, Acumen, Eye Flash Poetry. His poetry conversation pamphlet, ‘A Hostile Environment’, written in collaboration with Sarah Thomson, was published by Hedgehog Poetry Press in January 2019, and a second conversation, ‘Thinking You Home’ in June 2019. His poetry has been translated and appeared in the literary journals, Pro Saeculum and Banchetul. Saudade’ is his first collection. No wonder this has been nominated for a Michael Marks Award. These poems are fresh, clever and accessible – shining a light upon a variety of situations created by the Covid pandemic, with honesty, humour and humility. I’ve read it several times and converted several ‘non-poetry-loving’ friends by enforced reading of this pamphlet :)

A Book Which Rewards Repeated Visits
Nigel Kent is, in the truest sense of the word, a masterful poet. His many contributions to the UK poetry and cultural scene are now enhanced by this timely and vital response to the Covid-19 pandemic and its continuing – if unwanted – place in our lives and society. The quality of Nigel Kent’s writing has never been and could never be in doubt, and there is nothing in this little volume to change any of that. It is, quite literally, masterful. I bought this book as soon as it was published and it’s been a daily feature of my reading routine ever since. It’s an important little book and one which rewards repeated visits. A gem.
