Description

None of this makes any sense by Carol McKay & Keith McKay
As Carol describes it:
“Called ‘None of this makes any sense’, it’s comprised of four of my poems matched with four asemic poems by my creative partner, Keith McKay.
What does ‘asemic’ mean? Controversial! It means ‘A-semic’ or ‘non-sense’. I’d describe it as part of a genre of visual poetry, which is becoming increasingly popular as an art form, and increasingly interesting. See Keith’s website for more info on the genre.
Our pamphlet is A6 in size, with full-colour images of Keith’s asemic works, one of which was selected for exhibition in Buenos Aires in November 2023.
My poems muse on the search for meaning and purpose in life, when – sometimes – it can seem none of it makes any sense.”
A Short volume showcasing poetry from Carol McKay alongside Asemic artwork from Keith McKay
This is a Limited Edition, featuring full colour artwork and is the fifth publication in our special Deconstructed, ‘Little Black Book’ series.

Carol McKay’s first poetry pamphlet Reading the Landscape was published by Hedgehog Poetry Press in 2022. Acclaimed Welsh poet Ifor ap Glyn, as guest editor for the Scottish Poetry Library, nominated ‘Ceilidh’ from that collection as one of the twenty Best Scottish Poems of 2022. Carol won the Scottish Association of Writers’ James Muir Poetry Competition in 2023 and was Scriever for the Federation of Writers (Scotland) then, too. None of this makes any sense is her first creative collaboration with Keith McKay, though you could say they’ve been in a creative collaboration for fifty years.Carol’s website is https://www.carolmckay.co.uk
Keith McKay generates asemic writing through the medium of pen to paper, and through computer coding. His work has been published in Australian arts magazine Otoliths 64 in 2022, and 66 in 2023, and Italian liminal magazine Utsanga 37 in 2023.
The final asemic poem in this pamphlet was selected for exhibition at GRAPHOS – MUESTRA INTERNATIONAL DE ESCRITURA ASÉMICA, 01 -18 November 2023 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He has published two books, Circles and Squares: One Page Asemic Poems and Asemic Diagrams, Computer Generated Asemic Drawings. Keith’s website www.theasemicimprint/keithmckay.co.uk is under continual development and ‘has no specific semantic content’.
