“Hawthorn” – Sarah Barr – Deconstructed EP#1 – (Print Edition)

Description

Hawthorn from Sarah Barr is a fresh and quietly beautiful collection of poems inspired by nature and something that, we felt, required a similarly special approach to it’s publication.

Deconstructed is something new from Hedgehog. The idea behind it is that we take a poetry collection and physically and metaphorically Deconstruct it into a variety of new forms, allowing the reader to see the work from new perspectives and in a different way to the normal, more linear ‘read’.

In the case of Sarah’s Hawthorn it is being produced in our new full colour EP format, sized at 180mm x 180mm which are the average dimensions of a 7″ Single sleeve. From there the work divides into two editions, and then further into a series of fragments of the text reproduced over the course of a series of Artcards of differing sizes.

To summarise, it will be produced as:

1. 1. 1. An Author’s edition, limited to 125 copies
      2. A Publisher’s edition limited to 125 copies
      3. The Two editions will feature the different covers shown above
      4. Two full sized Artcard representations of the covers
      5. A Set of Three Medium Artcards sharing ‘splinters’ of Sarah’s poems, and
      6. A Set of Three Smaller Pocket Cards again, showcasing different ‘splinters’ taken from the work

The book itself, in both forms, is beautifully produced and includes stunning plates taken from Edwards’s Botanical Register by Sydenham Edwards, and Traité des Arbres et Arbustes que l’on cultive en France en pleine terre by Duhamel du Monceau.
