Over the course of the year, there will be Four Challenges that focus on people and families and the places that they live.
There will be more details of how this fits together as we go, but the first of the four looks at the Family who live and have lived for generations in Number 17 Kitchener Road.
17 Kitchener Road is a post war street that was built as part of the slum clearance / regeneration of the inner cities.
When it was built, the Coniff Family moved in, Gerry who had fought in France, his wife Helen who had worked at a local munitions factory and later they were joined by their daughter Sarah and son Peter.
Later, both Peter and Sarah were married and left the family home, although after a divorce, Sarah moved back in with her parents, along with her own children all of whom live there to this day.
So this challenge is really about a typical house on a typical street, and the family that lived there. The Challenge for you is to pick one member of the family, past or present, and write from their point of view, outlining their life, their hopes, dreams, successes, failures or the niggles that accompany multi-generational living.
There are no limits for the poem in terms of length or style, so it is entirely in your own hands.
