I do realise that launching this Challenge in August, in the middle of what is as close to a heatwave as we are likely to see this year, is probably a little less appealing than most, but given printer timescales and everything else, you’ll just have to go with me on this one, I’m afraid :)

Anyway, August’s Challenge aims to do something I’ve really wanted to do for quite a while, and that is have a Proper Hedgehog Annual, that will be published and in your hands before Christmas.

Personally, the best part of Christmas morning was always opening the Beano annual when I was a kid, and there is something special about having a book that is only for that time of year, and what I want to create here is something beautiful that will go away and come out every year with the baubles – a proper treat.

The Challenge then is really simple. I want you to write a poem that tells us all what Christmas means for you, and the  best of these will be gorgeously published along with a selection of beautiful Vintage Christmas illustrations in time for the big day itself.

There are no restrictions on the shape, length, form or degree of sugar coating required. I’ll leave that up to you.

To be clear:

    1. Write a Poem that tells us what Christmas means to you
    2. The poem can be of any type or style

Rules:

    1. There are no length constraints
    2. You must be a Cult Member to submit your poem – sending it to competition@hedgehogpress.co.uk
    3. Send the poem by 11.59pm on the 31st August 2024

The best poems/responses will be included in a wee book to be published in December 2024
