A Hog Blogs: Like the Dodgems, Two-at-a-time

Well, it has been quite the week, here in Hogland, what with various books and pamphlets, covers and competitions getting fettled, and if I am honest about it, it is all quite fun and not a little exhilarating.

Today, sees the trend continue and it is back to some typesetting and book covering as I am addressing two collections that have been waiting (like a lot of others, I hate to say) for quite a while and so it is both a relief and a pleasure to be getting on with them.

The first of the two is by the truly special Jenna Plewes –  ‘A Lick of Loose Threads’ whilst the second is a brilliant wee collection from one of my faves the excellent Elizabeth Barton, called ‘Mirrored Time’

Elizabeth Barton

I can’t share the covers just yet as they haven’t been signed-off, but I think you’ll agree when you do see them that they are rather gorgeous and more to the point the poetry within them both is completely, 100%, nothing like each other, in any way.

And I’ve always loved that about Hedgehog, I really don’t think anybody could ever guess what a ‘Hedgehog Poet’ is going to be like before they open a collection and I hope that it stays that way for a long long time.

I know that isn’t always the case with presses, but I’ve always equated  poetry to music and sometimes I want to  read Yeats and listen to The Bothy Band, but others I want to have a Buckowski and Lee Ranaldo day.

Speaking of music to typeset by, today is most definitely all about All About Eve and their long beloved debut album has been spinning around like a record baby all day.

It definitely comes from a time when I used to wear flowers in my hair, as opposed to now when I would have to Sellotape them to my scalp, but there we are.

If you haven’t heard the rather wonderful voice of Julianne Regan, have a listen, it is still a brilliant  album and I still very much think Florence Welch owes the lady a debt ;o)
