A Hog Blogs: A Cover Reveal – Julie Stevens’ ‘Step Into The Dark’

I perhaps use the word ‘proud’ too often when I talk about the poetry Hedgehog is publishing, but it is both because I really am and of course because I have quite a limited vocabulary.

Despite that, I am seriously, extremely and massively proud to say that Julie Stevens new collection will have a Hedgehog silhouetted on the cover and be available very soon, and that I can now share that very Hogified cover.

As to how we got there, Julie found the image, which works perfectly and again it was one where you just want to make sure that the text and logos (and barcode on the back) don’t get in the way.

The original text I’d used had a slightly more ornate font with – technically speaking – lots of wiggly bits and whilst I thought it worked, Julie wasn’t convinced and she was totally right, and so we re-worked it into something a lot cleaner

It is often the tiny details that can distract – and looking at the cover from a distance, without stating the obvious about a black hole, it – err – pulls you in.

More to the point, one thing (in my very slim list of credits) I always try to do is make sure that the author gets a cover they like. At the end of the day, nobody publishes so many books in their life that they should make do.

Of far more interest, you’ll hopefully be able to pre-order Julie’s collection this week – more details as I get around to making them up.

In other Julie related news – this week will see the launch of our second ‘Four Seasons of Poetry’ anthologies, with our Summer Stickleback containing prize winning Summer poems from last year.

Julie won the first prize and her poem ‘Sun Snake’ will open the collection.

This will be launched at precisely 15:57pm on the 21st of June, and is a lovely wee collection.

Incidentally, the Spring Collection is of course still available to download for FREE if you didn’t see it at the time.

You can find that one here:
