A Hog Blogs: A Cover Reveal – Dawn Gorman’s ‘The Bird Room’

I mentioned that I was working with Dawn Gorman to get her wee collection The Bird Room together, just yesterday, and I am pleased to say that it is about ready to go to print, which is always an exciting time.

Of course a book or pamphlet isn’t just the words and the cover for Dawn’s collection is based upon a quite beautiful painting Into the Wild, by Kate Bergin. It is always a treat when we get to use such brilliant artwork, and in this case Dawn has chosen perfectly as it matches the collection nicely.

With such a clean image, the biggest challenge is not messing it up with inappropriate fonts or borders and in this case we kept it really simple and hopefully it works all the better for that.

Of course Dawn’s previous work with us was the brilliant “Aloneness is a Many-Headed Bird”  her poetry conversation with the excellent Rosie Jackson.

The poetry is fantastic, but again the cover featured a gorgeous work of art, that made the collection stand out in any crowd and set the scene for what was within, in style.

The artwork in that case was The Tea Leaf Reading by Gina Litherland, and the treatment of it was slightly different based on the style of the work, which I hope did it justice.

I’ll share how you can pre-order ‘The Bird Room’ soon, and everything else, but it is a stunning work and will be quite the ‘object’ too and I’m sure you will treasure it.
