Cult of the Spiny Hog: May Challenge – “I Dance Alone – When The Door Shuts, The Real You”

The May Cult Challenge

We all have a private self, the real person deep inside, with words and thoughts we don’t wish – or dare to share. Loves lost or unvoiced, songs left publicly unsung that scream in our head and so much more than that. Our very essence.

This is a difficult challenge, and one I am more than happy for you to submit anonymously – or with an assumed name, because I want you to write a poem that speak the unspeakable, and shows the world something it has never seen before, show the world a piece of the real you.

“I Dance Alone – When The Door Shuts, The Real You” will be a wee anthology of unvarnished truth, words you never thought you’d write, never mind share.

It is perhaps the bravest poetry you’ll ever write.

The Challenge:

Write a Poem that tells us something that you have never shared, an inner truth, secret, love lost or regret. The poem can take any form, be any length, you decide.

The Prize:

    1. The Shortlisted poets will be included in a Stickleback Anthology to be published during 2022

The Rules:

    1. Poets should:
      1. Write a poem that describes an inner truth that they have never before shared – a truth that they only dare to consider when they are (dancing) alone
    2. Poems must be received by Midnight on the 31st of May 2022
    3. Entry is restricted to members of the Hedgehog Poetry Cult of the Spiny Hog
    4. Send your poem to: competition@hedgehogpress.co.uk
