This is only the fourth ‘Slim Volume of One’s Own’ Pamphlet Competition, and as with the previous times it seems to have brought a lot of excellent work out and again proved to be our most popular competition.
As a bit of background – pamphlets are the absolute core to everything we do at Hedgehog, but I was conscious that we only really offered short collections to first time poets, which is daft as there was never a good reason for that.
The downside to popularity is that it takes a lot longer to judge all of the entries, but I am pleased to say that I got it down to a shortlist and ultimately a winner.
And this is a seriously fine winner indeed and in the end despite the shortlisted poets running it close, I went with
KAREN FRANCIS
for her collection
‘A Mother is a Paperclip’
which I am pleased to say will be published in 2023.
Congratulations to Karen and many thanks to all who took the time to send their work in.
