It has been a while since we had a Photo Challenge for the Cult, and I do so love a good Photo Challenge, so here we go as I ask thee to imagine what is going on in the head of a random stranger, hope that you can paint a picture with words that describes the life or thoughts of a random Face in the Crowd.

The idea is simple – firstly, you name the girl looking back at you.

Her name is your poem title.

Secondly you write a poem of any length, style or form that describes what she is thinking.

Is she happy, sad, lost, hurt or searching for a friend?

You decide.

The point of course is that there are always a thousand faces around us with names and stories we don’t know, so as a group the poems will describe not just faces in a crowd, but a faceless crowd. Or so I hope.

The Challenge:

Write a Poem that describes the thoughts of the Face in the Crowd, with the Title being the name that you give to her.

The Prize:

    1. The Winning and Shortlisted poets will be included in a Stickleback Anthology to be published 15th of April 2022

The Rules:

    1. Poets should:
      1. Select a NAME for the Lady who appears in the Photograph – this is the TITLE of your poem
      2. Write a poem that describes how she feels, what she is thinking about or her general ‘internal dialogue’.  Is she lonely, full of hope or perhaps wondering who just stood on her foot – you decide.
    2. Poems must be received by Midnight on the 31st of March 2022
    3. Entry is restricted to members of the Hedgehog Poetry Cult of the Spiny Hog
    4. Send your poem to: competition@hedgehogpress.co.uk
